The Royal George Theatre Complex was built in 1984. The complex has 4 theatre spaces(descriptions below), two floors of office space and a popular eatery, Balena Restaurant.

The Royal George Theatre Center in recent years has featured such acclaimed attractions as Forbidden Broadway; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Dont Dress for Dinner(JEFF award);Steady Rain(2009 Season on Broadway with Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig);Art; The Gin Game, starring Julie Harris and Charles Durning; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Forever Tango; Love Letters, starring Robert Wagner and Jill St. John; I Hate Hamlet; the premiere of the first national touring production of Angels in America; Lost in Yonkers; Lend Me a Tenor; and Other People's Money. Other major productions on the Mainstage have included the world premiere of Steppenwolf Theatre Company's The Grapes of Wrath; Papa, starring George Peppard; the world premiere of Burn This, starring John Malkovich and Joan Allen, Little Shop of Horrors, Billy Connelly, and John Leguizamo . The theatre was the broadcast site for the hit television show Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher during the Democratic National Convention in 1996. Forever Plaid, played in the Royal George Cabaret Theatre for six and a half years, and is the longest running musical ever produced in Chicago. The Gallery Theatre has featured productions by more than twenty new and developing Chicago theatre companies, including the long running Flanagan's Wake and now the home of Late Nite Catechism.

The Mainstage Theatre is 452-seat( 267 in orchestra and 185 in the balcony), traditional proscenium theatre with fixed seating on two levels. Featuring excellent sight lines and live acoustics, the Mainstage is an extremely versatile midsize venue ideally suited for musicals, straight plays, one person shows, stand-up comedy, film screenings, as well as corporate meetings. Cabaret/Studio Theatre is a one of a kind 199-seat found space with a fixed, raised seating plan. While it is not a "cabaret" theatre in the traditional sense, the Theatre does feature a fully stocked 20ft bar in the space. The intimate stage is ideal for small musicals, plays , stand up comedy and cabaret acts. Seating Capacity: 199 Approx. The Great Room is a 100-seat found space with a versatile seating arrangement. Like the Cabaret/Studio Theatre, the Great Room features a fully stocked bar within the space itself. The Great Room also sports beautiful architectural features such as exposed brick and timber ceiling beams. The Great Room is ideal for one person shows (such as the long running Late Nite Catechism), small corporate meetings, or as a classroom and workshop space. Seating Capacity: 100 Approx. The Gallery is a highly versatile 50-seat black box theatre. It can be configured in a variety of ways including a proscenium simulation, a thrust stage, and even a miniature arena stage. The Gallery is an ideal space for Chicago's up and coming theatre companies and readings. Seating Capacity: 50 Approx. Stage Dimensions: 15ft wide x 13ft deep Grid Height: 13ft
